The European Network for Cyber Security (ENCS) is an independent, non-profit member organization that brings together critical infrastructure stake owners and security experts to deploy secure European critical energy grids and infrastructure.
Founded in 2012, ENCS has dedicated researchers and test specialists who work with members and partners on applied research, defining technical security requirements, component and end-to-end testing, as well as education & training. ENCS uses its network in academia, government and business to provide cyber security solutions and counsel dedicated to the needs of national Distribution System Operators (DSO) and regulators. ENCS’s core focus is around educating and solving cyber security challenges in the development and operation of energy grids and other critical infrastructure grids across Europe
How we do all of this by the following:
- Counsel dedicated to the needs of critical infrastructure owners
- Performing research in the domain of critical infrastructure security
- Building a network in academia, government and business
- Conducting component and end-to-end testing
- Providing ongoing education & training
- Sharing information and knowledge
- Contributing in academic and industry conferences to be at the forefront of cyber security developments
ENCS offers its services to members and non-members.
Security Research
The foundation for the ENCS services is research on critical infrastructure security. The focus is on the security of Smart Grids and industrial control systems. The security requirements and constraints in this area differ substantially from classical IT security. IT solutions can usually not be used without modifications. ENCS research works on adapting the IT solutions and developing new security approaches that fit the needs of our members.
